Donna Walker has studied drawing, painting and printmaking; she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. Donna has always looked for ways to use her artistic skills in unusual and creative jobs. She has 20 years experience in painting and 4 years experience in art conservation. Donna has appreciated and collected antique maps for years
and has an extensive library of reference books and materials.
Donna enjoys painting en plein air as well as painting scenes from her travels. She paints landscapes, cityscapes, still life and the figure. She enjoys capturing scenes of life around her. Each painting has a narrative feel to it. Some are beginnings of stories, some are fleeting moments. Donna strives to create a feeling of place and mood through color and active brushstrokes. She studied painting and printmaking at Illinois Wesleyan University. In 1995, Donna Walker found a job that combined her love of art and history with practical science to help preserve our artistic heritage; she became an assistant art conservator with Perry Huston and Associates, a Fort Worth, Texas based company. They began work on a large-scale conservation project at the Allen County Courthouse in Fort Wayne, IN. Walker assisted in the cleaning, repairing, and painting of damaged areas of a series of four historic murals done in 1902 by the artist Charles Holloway. The conservation of the 400 square foot canvases continued for three years. After the completion of the courthouse murals, Walker worked on other conservation projects in Fort Worth, TX, before beginning her graduate studies in printmaking at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. Upon graduating in 2000, Walker spent seven months assisting in the conservation of a series of fourteen murals at Dallas Fair Park with Fine Art Conservation Laboratories; a California based firm. These murals were created for the Texas Centennial Fair, by Carlo Ciampaglia, Ettore Serbaroli, Julian Garnsey, Eugene Gilboe and others. The paintings date from the 1930's. In March 2001, Walker Map Studio was created out of Walkerís love of history, maps and painting. Most antique maps were woodblock or copperplate etchings and Walker recreates the look of an etching in her painted maps. The studio is a creative way for Walker to design maps customized to an individualís travels and life adventures. She believes maps have a visual richness and are symbolic of all discoveries. Some of her recent maps have included clientsí cruises of the Mediterranean; a map of the Hamptons, Long Island, NY designed exclusively for George Glazer Gallery of Manhattan; and a map of an estate in Ireland. Walker enjoys researching each new location and making the map a reflection of its history and beauty. Walker grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana and now lives in
Fort Worth, Texas with her husband, Scott. She and Scott enjoy traveling
and learning about other cultures. Recent trips have included Italy,
Spain, Sweden and Japan.
